I was in the audience. Typically I would jump at the chance to perform.
The first few songs were jazzy and some had some blues.
I started thinking "I could.... maybe sing a song, but which one?"
Gloria Estefan... a song from her Mi Tierra album. Then the next song started and it was that song!
"Shoot, what else could I sing?" As I thought about it (too long) time was running out. No song was "good enough." Then the teacher asked me if I wanted to perform...
How many times have you thought to yourself, "I'm not good enough" or "My work is not good enough", "I don't have what it takes"?
As a woman in her mid 30s, these thoughts still try to creep in and take over my life. It's what we do right after that determines our future...
We have 3 options:
• Do Nothing
• Beat Ourselves Up
• Take a Risk
As a daughter raised by a single father and having had my life completely turned upside down when my parents split, I have learned to take risks and go after my dreams. My dad has always taught me to go further. He has always been there as my safety net when I have fallen and scraped my knees. He's pushed my buttons to not be complacent and fight for what I want including speaking up for myself. He's also learned that sometimes I just need to cry and rest before I go back out into the world and face my fears.
When your daughter is facing her fears, thinks she's "not good enough" and/or falls down... What do you encourage her to do? not do? Most importantly... Does she come to you with her problems?
My dad has been, by far, my biggest challenge when it comes to communicating effectively. As a teenage daughter, that grew up, I know and remember the struggles of building a relationship with my dad (AND my mom, I'll tell you more about that later).
At my Empower Your Daughter workshop, I cover facing fears, taking responsibility for ALL actions we take, the importance of staying true to ourselves and not being persuaded easily (or at all) by anyone that isn't a mentor/good role model. The next workshop is coming this summer. Click HERE to --->>>Register for my Free Live Webinar coming up JUNE 13th @ 7pm. You'll find successful tips to open up the conversation with your daughter about the workshop too and so much more!
(Back to Dream)...Once I had the mic in my hand I did end up performing. It was a Whitney Houston song. Teenagers are constantly wavering in their self confidence asking themselves "do I have the confidence to continue my dream?" My question to you is...
Does your daughter have the confidence, self love, communication and support system (you included) in place, to help her realize her dreams? If you're curious I encourage you to REGISTER for my Free Live Webinar coming up JUNE 13th @ 7pm here. Is this information valuable? Leave a comment below ...
